One of the great things about Washington, D.C. is that it's a very outdoorsy and active city. Although there are wonderful walking trails and places to enjoy nature in D.C. proper (stay tuned for my top 10 trails in the city), for truly avid hikers who like a little more challenge, you may want to branch out a bit. So here are my top 10 best hikes near D.C.

One of the things I love most about my solo trips is that they can be whatever I want. My favorite types of solo trips are shorter, either a weekend or even a day trip. It's easier to get away for only a few days, less expensive, and a great way to see the highlights of a place. I recently took one such trip to Cape May, New Jersey. So check out what I was able to do in my Cape May Day Trip below.

One of my favorite things about living in Washington, D.C. is the proximity to so many other great places, all within a few hours of the Capital. This makes for some perfect weekend trips, which I love doing solo. Probably my favorite place for a solo weekend trip is to Harpers Ferry, WV.
