On a recent road trip with my sister, we stopped for one day in Pittsburgh, PA, and it was definitely not enough time! While we both agree we want to come back to explore the city, we had a blast with what we did squeeze into our visit to the Steel City. Keep reading for our Pittsburgh day trip itinerary.

Afternoon: Pierogi and the Andy Warhol Museum

We arrived in Pittsburgh around lunchtime, so of course had to try the local cuisine, pierogi! If you are not familiar, pierogi are filled dumplings of Polish origin, usually boiled, fried, or both. Since I’m gluten-free, we found a place that offered both traditional and gluten-free options, Cop Out Pierogies. They only take cash or venmo, but they are totally worth it. SO GOOD!

After stuffing our faces with pierogi, we dropped our bags at our hotel and headed to the Andy Warhol Museum. Not knowing much about him before, I learned a lot about him and his art, including how weird he was!

Evening: Pittsburgh Pirates Game

If you know me, you know I love baseball, and that I am trying to visit every major league baseball stadium. My sister graciously agreed to attend baseball games with me on our road trip, so we headed to PNC Park. Even though the weather wasn’t great, we had a blast! The fans made the atmosphere really fun, and the home team won in an exciting way right at the end of the game.

Morning: Duquesne Incline

Before heading home in the morning, we squeezed in one more attraction to our Pittsburgh day trip itinerary. The Duquesne Incline was supposed to afford great views of the Pittsburgh skyline, and it did not disappoint! This was the perfect activity to end our 24 hours in Pittsburgh.

A few things of note, you have to pay to park at the lower level, and also payment to ride is cash only or via an app. The ATM at the lower level was broken when we visited also. It’s only $5 roundtrip, which was still worth it.

If you are looking for other day trip itineraries, check out my posts on San Diego, CA or Cape May, NJ. And let me know what I should add to my list for my next visit to Pittsburgh!
